The Art Inheritance Taichung Artist's Relay Exhibition, organized in 1988 by then-Taichung County Cultural Center (now Taichung City Huludun Cultural Center), is Central Taiwan's oldest art exhibition. Following the 2011 consolidation of Taichung city and county into the Greater Taichung special municipality, the exhibition expanded to incorporate all of the city's districts. In 2018, as the Art Inheritance Taichung Artist's Relay Exhibition celebrates its 30th anniversary, it has been decided to take a look back over this whole period, using the exhibition format to bring history alive and facilitate more in-depth discussion.
The "Retrospective Exhibition to Mark 30 Years of the Art Inheritance Taichung Artist's Relay Exhibition," which is being held at the Huludun Cultural Center in the Fengyuan District of Taichung City, embodies the same ethos as the upcoming 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition, with its emphasis on sustainable development. This year's retrospective exhibition will feature a total of 260 artworks by 167 artists, including oil paintings, watercolors, glue color paintings, water ink works, calligraphy, ceramic art, and sculptures.. In order to show clearly how the Art Inheritance Taichung Artist's Relay Exhibition has developed over the last 30 years, the "Retrospective Exhibition to Mark 30 Years of the Art Inheritance Taichung Artist's Relay Exhibition" will make extensive use of contrast, using the differences between works to show how painting styles have changed over the years, and to highlight the way artistic sensibilities have been transformed over time. This exhibition will enable us to see how artistic excellence has been transmitted through the generations in Taichung City, from long-established, veteran artists to younger talent. Thanks to this "passing of the baton" by local artists, there has been a real flourishing of artistic excellence in Taichung, opening up beautiful vistas of unlimited potential for the future.
