At the beginning of spring, Taichung demonstrates strong cultural cultural momentum! This afternoon, Taichung City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau held the "2026 Taichung City Cultural and Artistic Community New Year Gathering" at the City Government Assembly Hall. With the vibrant annual theme "Welcoming Spring in the Year of the Horse, Culture Gallops Onward," the event brought together more than 400 artists, experts, and scholars from the fields of visual arts, performing arts, literature, design, and cultural heritage to exchange ideas, showcasing Taichung’s fully activated cultural capacity and its continuously developing creative vitality.
Deputy Mayor Huang Kuo-jung attended the event and expressed his gratitude to the arts and culture community for participating in the Lunar New Year gathering. He noted that Taichung's culture is diverse and profound, thanks to the artists' dedication to education and their long-term contributions to innovation and promotion. He wished the new year to be as swift and brilliant as a galloping horse! According to the 2025 County and City Happiness Index survey by Economic Daily News, Taichung ranked second among the six major cities in the category of "local government administrative satisfaction," demonstrating the effectiveness of municipal governance. In terms of urban construction, Taichung Green Museumbrary officially opened, while Taichung international Convention and Exhibition Center, as well as Taichung Aquarium were completed successively. The Taichung Dome project is progressing steadily, and the MRT Blue Line along with the planned seven-line network are laying out new urban arteries. These initiatives comprehensively enhance public services, transportation convenience, and quality of life. Taichung continues to build a happy city through the integrated advancement of infrastructure and cultural development.
Cultural Affairs Bureau Director Chen Jiajun highlighted Taichung's remarkable cultural achievements in recent years. Taichung Green Museumbrary won the 2025 Golden Pin Design Award and attracted nearly 300,000 visitors in its first month of operation. Both the Waipu Branch Library and the Hsu Liangyu Library received the National Excellence in Construction Award. The city government allocates an annual budget of NT$100 million for book purchases to foster a city-wide culture of reading. The Taichung Jazz Festival drew over one million participants and generated billions of dollars in revenue. Additionally, the nation's largest "Dadun Art Exhibition" toured 17 cities worldwide, while the "Creative Taichung "connects design and industry to promote the cultural and creative economy.
This New Year's gathering featured a dynamic opening performance by the Taichung-based art group "Lit Art," blending circus acts and acrobatics with fluid movements that symbolize the surge of cultural energy. Gift sets of essential oil soaps, crafted by the Taichung Autism Education Association, were also presented, merging cultural participation with charitable care and reflecting the city's inclusivity and warmth. Deputy Mayor Huang personally visited each table to express his gratitude and extend New Year's wishes to the arts and culture workers. Looking ahead, he emphasized the continued development of a vibrant Taichung that integrates international perspectives, cultural depth, and aesthetic appeal through infrastructure upgrades, cultural enrichment, and industrial collaboration.
Today's event was attended by distinguished guests including Deputy Mayor Huang Kuo-jung, Director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau Chen Jiajun, directors of various cultural centers, experts and scholars from the fields of visual arts, performing arts, literature, design, cultural heritage, and public representatives, who came together to witness a new chapter in Taichung's cultural and urban development.
