Thousands Enjoy Family Picnic Event with Books and Coffee at Xinshe District's Cultural Green Gathering

The 2025 Taichung Picnic Day kicked off today (November 2) across all 29 districts of the city. !n Xinshe district , the event was held lively at Fusheng Park, under the theme “Reading on the Lawn: Bring a Book to Picnic.” Combining the local natural scenery and the floral and agricultural specialties, the event invited the public to enjoy delicious snacks, participate in exciting tree-climbing experiences, and appreciate performances including dance, a wind music concert, and an extreme stunt show. Raffles with grand prizes were also held, offering everyone an opportunity to spend a delightful autumn day immersed in reading, art, and nature.
Director Chen Chia-Chun of the Taichung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that this year’s Picnic Day draws inspiration from the cultural inclusivity spirit of the Green Museumbrary, aligning with its trial operation from October 28 to November 16 and grand opening on December 13. The theme for this year’s Picnic Day has been set as “Reading on the Lawn,” extending the joy of reading onto the city’s green spaces and creating a cultural and creative event for all citizens to participate in. The Xinshe venue centers on the theme of “Coexistence with Nature,” integrating local oncidium orchids and indigo-dye crafts to create a dreamlike floral landscape. Tree-climbing experiences are also arranged, allowing participants to gaze over the verdant Xinshe terrain and feel a connection with nature.
The Huludun Cultural Center noted that the Picnic Day in Xinshe began with a contemporary dance performance by Cyong Rong Dance Troupe, followed by an autumnal musical ensemble by Blossom Brass Quintet. Tien Circus Theatre presented an extreme stunt show, while street performers engaged audiences with interactive bubble acts, bringing laughter to adults and children alike. Additionally, hands-on experiences such as indigo-dyed accessories, air rocket, and floral arrangement workshops offered attendees a warm encounter with the arts in everyday life.
Furthermore, in line with this year’s Picnic Day’s theme of “Reading on the Lawn,” a mobile library was stationed on-site, offering visitors the chance to borrow a book and enjoy a coffee. Attendees could participate in secondhand book giveaways, explore themed book exhibitions, enjoy picture-book performances, and join parent–child storytelling sessions—bringing reading beyond the pages and into the embrace of nature. The event also provided limited local specialty snacks and a raffle with prizes. Thousands of citizens brought books and good spirits to Fusheng Park in Xinshe, sharing a lawn-side reading experience with their family and pets alike. The combined scents of books, flowers, and coffee wove together a happy chapter in the city’s cultural life.
