A Little Nail’s Promise to Protect the Ocean! National Children’s Associative Drawing Contest Combined with SDGs Now Open for Submissions
Date:2025-09-05
A blank sheet of paper, a single shape—these can unlock a child’s limitless imagination! The 33rd Nationwide Children’s Associative Drawing Contest has kicked off with great enthusiasm. The lead-up promotional event, “The Little Nail’s Big Mission,” took place on September 3rd at the Huludun Cultural Center in Taichung City, inviting 30 children from the Child Welfare Center and school art classes to participate. Through a “theater story plus hands-on creation” experience, the kids embarked on an adventurous tale of ocean protection while personally completing “nail art creations,” using their purest creativity to safeguard the Earth.
The Taichung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that the “National Children’s Associative Drawing Contest” sends over 500,000 sheets of drawing paper annually to schools across the country and outlying islands, ensuring all children have equal opportunities to create and truly promoting educational equity. This year’s contest further integrates last year’s outstanding works with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), guiding children to reflect through their creations on “how to protect terrestrial and marine ecosystems.” Beyond fostering hand-eye coordination and creative thinking, it symbolizes their commitment to protecting animals and the environment.
The Huludun Cultural Center pointed out that the introductory promotional activity is inspired by the chemical formula of water, "H₂O," encouraging children to observe everyday life and, starting from a single drop of water, to draw on their imagination and care for the world. The event "Little Nails, Big Mission" specially features a themed drama and games focused on "Marine Environmental Protection," as well as a "Nail Art Creation" activity where children use wooden boards, threads, and natural materials to craft unique nail art pieces by hand. Each nail represents a promise made to the Earth—small hands can also fulfill a big mission.
The National Children's Associative Drawing Contest uses "associative creation" to tell stories with colors and see the world through creativity. It encourages students to draw inspiration from daily observations, unleash their imagination, and cultivate care for the world along with diverse thinking skills. This is not just a competition but an artistic movement passed down through generations, allowing children's works to become voices for environmental protection.
