The Art Inheritance—Taichung Artists Relay Exhibition is considered one of the most long-lived and important art exhibitions in central Taiwan, embracing the mission to keep the legacy alive and offering artists from the Taichung area a place to shine. The 262nd successor artist featured in this relay exhibition, oil painter Hong Chun-Ming, was born in Taichung in 1967. With an avid interest in drawing since early childhood, Hong chose to major in graphic design at the University of San Francisco. Following the completion of his studies, he chanced to encounter the classical oil paintings of the Italian Renaissance and was profoundly moved by the color palette and textures of this genre, so much so he became deeply committed to exploring a whole new creative realm. After a period of meditative growth, a highly distinguishable personal style began to emerge, enabling him to win multiple commendations including merit awards at the National Oil Painting Exhibition, the Tai-Yang Fine Arts Exhibition, and the Dadun Art Exhibition as well as first place honors in the oil painting category at the New Taipei City ARTS Exhibition.
Hong Chun-Ming’s classical oil painting techniques are completely self-taught. Books and online videos on related topics enabled him to master the ratio of painting mediums, the order of colors and glazing techniques, and it is with these intricate strokes that he captures the views of his walking travels. He is full of passionate feelings and care for Taiwan. For more than 10 years, he and his son have braved the cold, heat, wind and rain to walk around Taiwan to take pictures. By walking slowly, he integrates what he saw during his travels and beautiful memories into creative elements, such as "Once" and " "City Impression" and "Mazu Circumnavigation" share the common memories of dragon pillars, mountain cities, seaports, market blocks, and daily life scenes into meaningful visual art, hoping that viewers can recall and feel the preciousness and beauty of their hometown.
On this occasion, his works will be showcased under the title of “A Style of One’s Own: I Walk, I See, I Think, I Paint,” and will feature a range of topics including landscapes and still life, flora and fauna, architecture, and the “man of shame” series. Created to resonate with and inspire a sense of harmony in viewers, these paintings also reflect the innermost beings of man that have yet to be tainted by the civilized world. We sincerely invite everyone to relish and appreciate these wonderful pieces of art.
